Hi! I’m Jana, a registered Dietitian for over 15 years. My mission is to help women over 40 find joy and healing in eating and to learn to appreciate and love their bodies.
Why women over 40? Because that’s who I am! And not only do I understand the challenges women over 40 face in their body (thinning hair, jeans fitting a little tighter, intense food cravings, bloating, aches and pains -just to name a few), I’m living it and thriving!
I’m a big believer that it is our birthright to feel joy -no exceptions! But so many women don’t feel joy, especially in their body. The reason for this is that they often put the needs of others ahead of their own needs. They nurture others daily while neglecting to nurture themselves. I know this, because I used to do the same. Not taking time to nurture ourselves leads to a disconnect with our bodies and can lead to poor eating habits and emotional eating. I am not going to make a grand statement here and say I am 100% over emotional eating, to be honest, I’m not sure that’s possible. But I will state that emotional eating is no longer my crutch or my go to. I’ve also adopted a daily practice of self care that doesn’t leave me feeling that I am neglecting my loved ones!
A little bit about how I came to be a dietitian:
I graduated from McGill University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Nutritional Sciences. I am registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, College of Dietitians of Alberta and Saskatchewan Dietitian Association, and a member of Dietitians of Canada.
When I embarked on my journey to become a dietitian, I knew with every fibre of my soul that I was meant to be a dietitian. However as a child and young adult, I never knew how to answer the age old question “what do you want to be when you grow up?”
For several years before becoming a dietitian, I worked as a food service manager and diet technician. Although I loved working in the field of food and nutrition, none of these jobs filled me with joy. So, I tried my hand at the tech world and worked for Bell Canada for many years. A year or so into this job, I developed a debilitating anxiety disorder. I was miserable. I knew I wasn’t living my true purpose. Feeling lost, I started on a journey of spiritual healing. It was through this spiritual growth that I found my purpose -helping people find good health and joy through nutrition.
Working with clients and embarking on their health journey, brings me tremendous joy! I love celebrating their successes and troubleshooting their challenges. It takes a great deal of strength and vulnerability to discuss our food choices and eating habits. I always feel blessed when clients feel they can trust me with such an important part of their life.
